A woman has been reunited with her dog 12 years after it went missing.
Dutchess, the fox terrier, squeezed out of the door of Katheryn Strang’s home in Orlando, Florida, in February 2007 and didn’t come back.
Katheryn made Lost Dog signs and took daily trips to her local shelter for months, desperate to find her.
Despite her best efforts, it was not until 12 years later when a man found Dutchess under his shed near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – nearly 1,000 miles from Orlando – and took the shivering, hungry animal to the Humane Animal Rescue shelter, reported the Washington Post.
A scan of Dutchess’s microchip linked her to Katheryn, who had since moved to Boca Raton, Florida.
Katheryn drove to the shelter to pick up Dutchess, now 14, and staff posted footage of the emotional reunion on Facebook, writing: “This is why we do what we do.”
It is not known how the dog made the trek to Pittsburgh — or what she has been doing for the past 12 years – but Katheryn joked that the dog could ‘tell me some stories’.
