Scientists were stunned to discover more than 40 new species of fish in a lake in Africa.
In a study paper published in Nature, the scientists said that Lake Mweru, which lies at the border between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, houses ‘a spectacular diversity’ of cichlids, most of which zoologists had never encountered before.
Most of the species are hybrids and the result of interspecies breeding.
