A date has been confirmed for the trial of two pet retailers accused of three separate allegations of causing unnecessary suffering of more than 60 reptiles.
Wayne Moffat, 58, of Storey Square, Barrow, and Ian Henry, 50, of St Vincent Street, Barrow, will appear at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court for a two-day trial on October 16 and 17.
Moffat, who owns pet store Living World, on Dalton Road, has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to various animals kept at the Barrow store.
Henry is also charged with unnecessary suffering towards the store’s animals.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges after appearing at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on July 22.
The offences, which are alleged to have taken place between October 4, 2018, to February 14, 2019, included a failure to seek veterinary advice for the reptiles and an injury to a gecko’s eye.
The charges also include allegations of failing to provide a number of reptiles with adequate ultraviolet lighting.
In total the case is questioning the unnecessary suffering of 66 animals including two monkeys. Other animals involved include snakes, a gecko, and a tortoise.
