An animal-loving entrepreneur is set to open a new independent pet store in the Cumbrian town of Grange-Over-Sands.
Pawlina’s Pet Shop at Albert Road, which is scheduled to open on December 2, will sell products for dogs, cats, small animals, fish and reptiles and will open all day on Tuesdays to Fridays, plus Saturday mornings.
Owner Paulina Melling grew up in Poland and moved to Grange in 2006, where she worked in hospitality at local hotels. In 2019 she set up Help at Home, which involves cleaning, washing, ironing and shopping for clients and providing companionship.
She said: “Grange is the safest and nicest place and everyone knows each other. I want the shop to be part of the community and to make sure people have a friendly and welcoming experience when they come in.”
Future plans include a delivery service and own-brand products, said Paulina.
She added: “I would also like to work with local pet rescue centres and do some events to raise money for them. And when I start delivering around the area hopefully it will encourage some of the older generation, who cannot get out to shop for pet food and litter, to adopt a cat for companionship from one of the centres.”
