The owner of a family pet store in Lancashire has announced his intention to retire after nearly 50 years of trading.
Bernard Brennand of Mill Hill Pets & Aquatics in Blackburn is retiring this month at the age of 69. The store was established in 1976 by his mother Sheila, and Bernard continued trading from the unit after Sheila’s retirement in 2021.
He told PBW News: “We sold household pets, reptiles and all breeds of fish. During the time I have been trading, I have had continued support from my wife and family, who have spent time and worked in the shop.
“I had the pleasure of supporting local schools and colleges by giving work experience to youngsters with a passion for pets and, during holidays, we did shows and put on workshops in pet care and handling for youngsters in the local community.”
Bernard added that he would like to thank all of his suppliers over the years, giving a particular mention to Batleys/Bestpets, Helmes, Burns Animal Foods, T Forrest, JK Aquatics, Bamfords, Beaphar and Simons Rodents, among others.
