Manufacturer CJ Wildlife has launched a new nest box, described as offering “unparalleled safety for nesting chicks”.
The Seattle Predator Protection Nest Box design features a tunnel system and an entrance hole aligned to the right, requiring two turns to access the main nest. This allows small birds to navigate the box while deterring larger predators. Up to 20% of nests fall currently prey to attacks from predators such as cats, squirrels and pine martens, according to estimates.
Constructed from 15mm thick, FSC-certified pine, the Seattle provides insulation for chicks, while the 32mm entrance hole is large enough for species such as great tits, crested tits, nuthatches, and tree sparrows. The front panel can be opened for cleaning.
The box measures 16 x 21.8 x 30.6 cm and weighs 1.48 kg, and comes with an integrated hanger.
