Boaters in the Straits of Gibraltar have reported being rammed repeatedly by orcas, causing damage to hulls and rudders.
The behaviour suggests stress among the whales, says Rocio Espada at the University of Seville’s marine biology laboratory. Heavy boat traffic, conflicts with fishermen and declining bluefin tuna populations are possible contributors, the Guardian reports.
