Next month’s North East Dog Festival is partnering with the My Anxious Dog organisation to help raise awareness of dogs that are easily stressed or prefer limited interaction.
The event, taking place at Kirkley Hall, Newcastle, on September 2-3, features an array of dog-related shows, displays, demonstrations and shopping but also includes a trade stand from My Anxious Dog, a company dedicated to promoting #DogsInYellow awareness.
Yellow Dog is an international campaign creating awareness for the dogs that need space, launched in 2012 in Sweden by Eva Oliversson, a certified dog trainer and dog behaviourist. The campaign raises awareness of the fact that dogs have individual personalities, and that animals in training, those with health issues or recovering from surgery, rescues or nervous older and fragile dogs may feel anxious, require space, or prefer limited interaction.
By dressing these dogs in yellow, the campaign hopes to create an instantly recognisable signal to give them the space they prefer.
