Sustainable pet products firm FibreCycle is going to convert its entire stand at next week’s PATS show into cat litter after the event in line with its environmental principles.
The whole stand – including the wall, chairs, tables, displays and even the flowers – will be made of paper which, after the show, will be taken to the company’s Scunthorpe factory and turned into cat litter, which will then be donated to Woodgreen Animal Shelter. The company will also be collecting spare leaflets and brochures to be turned into cat litter and donated to Woodgreen, with collection points on its stand (A7) as well as on the PBW News stand (F3).
FibreCyle produces Breeder Celect cat litter, made from 100% upcycled paper, mainly comprised of unsold newspapers. It will be launching two new products at the Sandown show – Breeder Celect Plus Probiotic 10l, containing odour-eating probiotics, as well as Breeder Celect Plus Kitten 10l, which includes a natural litter tray attractant to help with litter training in addition to the probiotic content. Both products will be entered into the show’s New Product Showcase, sponsored by PBW News.
Matt Brand, FibreCycle’s UK national business manager for pet speciality & independents, said: “Our philosophy is all about ‘finding a better way’. This is reflected in our litter – there must be a better way than mined and imported litter, so we wanted to reflect this in our approach to a trade show, to bring this concept to life and really get the message across.
“That’s why we’ve created a stand where everything on it is made out of newspaper and will be returned into our upcycled paper litter and bedding. We’re hoping it will capture people’s imagination and demonstrate the good we are doing by taking this potential waste out of circulation and returning it in a more eco-friendly way.”
FibreCycle will also be encouraging visitors to the stand to help the planet through a tree-planting initiative. Everyone who comes to the stand will be invited to play a lucky dip game, with prizes including bags of Breeder Celect litter and a clump of 25 trees planted in their name in FibreCycle’s Ecologi forest.
“To give people a fun and real-life example of how the paper litter is best, we’re got four lucky dip boxes, each consisting of a different type of litter,” added Brand. “Prizes ranging from free bags of litter, to trees planted in their name, will be given out.”
PATS Sandown runs from March 26-27 at Sandown Racecourse, Esher, Surrey. FibreCycle’s stand will be located at A7 in the Surrey Hall.
