Pet industry professionals are experiencing increasing expectations for sustainable companies and products, according to the results of an international trends in sustainability report.
Now, in order to support the industry’s efforts to meet these increased demands, the US-based World Pet Association has invested in The Pet Sustainability Coalition to support retailers, brands and manufactures so that they can continue to thrive.
Efforts at the SuperZoo trade show, in Las Vegas from August 20-22, will include a sustainable business educational session for retailers, the industry’s first Positive Impact product kiosk, a behind-the-scenes tour of Mandalay Bay’s waste-sorting and solar energy production facility, and water refill stations to decrease exhibitor and attendee reliance on single-use plastic water bottles.
The Pet Sustainability Coalition’s mission is ‘to advance business through profitable environmental and social business practices’. It was founded in 2013 by eight companies that recognised a need for a collaborative platform for the industry to address increasing expectations for sustainable products and now supports 100 pet companies.
