Retailers wishing to get involved with Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) can now download dedicated packs containing information and resources to use in store and in the local community.
The theme for this year’s RAW, which takes place on June 26-30, is ‘Neutering: Protect and Prevent’. Neutering not only prevents unplanned litters, but, with around 80% of unneutered female rabbits developing uterine tumours after the age of three (Source: Sciencedirect), it also helps rabbits live longer, healthier lives, say the organisers. Retail packs include rabbit care guides, health logs and printable posters.
RAW is organised by Burgess Pet Care, and RAW partners comprise the RSPCA, Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund, Woodgreen Pets Charity, Blue Cross and Raystede.
Dr Suzanne Moyes, deputy managing director and in-house vet at Burgess Pet Care, said: “We would love to get more retailers than ever before involved in RAW – you can support the campaign by downloading a free RAW retailer pack, which is full of resources including rabbit care guides, health logs and printable posters, so that you can put together your own in-store campaign.
“Given the increase in demand for rabbit ownership in the UK in recent years, it is really important that we educate as many owners as possible, so that these wonderful creatures can live the life they deserve, in the right environment.
“Working with our charity partners the RSPCA, Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF), Woodgreen Pets Charity, Blue Cross, and Raystede, we want to ensure that RAW is a great success and that we continue to improve the welfare of rabbits across the country.”
Special events for Rabbit Awareness Week will take place online on the RAW Facebook and Instagram pages, and at www.rabbitawarenessweek.co.uk. Retailers can download an information pack here.
