Esteemed pet nutritionist John Murray has passed away.
Murray worked in the field of animal nutrition for most of his career and was at one time head of nutrition for a major feed supplement company. In addition, he was involved with food processing technology and raw material development in both the animal and human food world, including spending time in Kenya with the World Food Programme making food for refugees.
Towards the end of this career, he concentrated animal nutrition for on horses, small animals and dogs, developing new treats and complete foods for pet food companies. He also advised the Pet Industry Federation (PIF) on nutritional issues to support its policy work and training courses, as well as working with the Federation and its members on a number of nutrition projects.
PIF chief executive Nigel Baker paid tribute by saying: “John was one of the nicest and kindest people you could meet. He was ‘one of a kind’ when it came to pet and animal nutrition. He knew how to formulate recipes in an exceptional way.
“John will be very sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.”
