Inspired Pet Nutrition (IPN), owner of the Wagg and Harringtons brands, is celebrating Earth Day (April 22) with the continuation of its status as a carbon negative business.
The company took the decision to become carbon negative in 2020 and appointed.
management company Carbon Footprint Ltd to independently assess its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with the UK Government’s environmental reporting guidelines.
By investing in tree planting and sustainable energy projects in Africa and Asia, IPN now offsets all of its manufacturing, office and employees’ carbon footprints, including travel to and from work. The company has also installed electric car charging stations with subsidised electricity at its business sites.
Chief executive James Lawson said: “We are delighted to be able to show we have reduced our location-based emissions for each employee’s greenhouse gas emissions by 13.6% since 2019. In addition, 100% of our purchased electricity is now sourced from renewable energy. It’s important for all of us at IPN that we continue on our positive pawprint journey and work hard to be ever more sustainable in new and innovative ways.
“On top of this, we have set ourselves a challenge of planting one million trees, and over the past year we have planted 500 trees in the UK and 80,000 across the globe through our partnership with Ecologi. This helps sequester even more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
He added: “I’m proud to say that our business activities have therefore become net zero carbon, and we will continue these practices going forward, exploring more ways we can ensure a greener planet in the future.”
