Compostable poo bag brand Adios Plastic is celebrating three years of trading today (May 13).
Founder Ben Dodd created the eco-friendly bags after finding shoppers were confused about what options were best for their pets and the planet. He started out selling the product door-to-door to pet stores, and the company has now sold more than 20 million bags in the UK and exhibited at PATS, Crufts, and other dog shows.
Dodd said: “When I started, I wanted to offer a better alternative to plastic bags.
“People were really conscious not to use them at the supermarket, but they were having to walk their dogs and use the exact same material. I set out to make bags that were kind to the planet, and in colours and designs that looked stylish.”
The bags are available in grey, coral, pink, purple, blue, lilac and mint colours.
The sale of 20 million bags means that the equivalent of 60 tonnes of waste has decomposed naturally. As well as reducing waste in landfill, the company has pledged over £7,000 to the 1% For The Planet charity and donated ‘wonky’ rolls to rescue centres.
Dodd added: “We have worked so hard in the last three years to educate customers, build awareness on social media and at events, and develop our products. It’s been a rollercoaster with lots of learning curves, and to have sold 20 million bags feels like a great milestone that has made a huge difference.”
