About 29 million Americans plan to spend a total of $490 million on Halloween costumes for their pets this year, about twice what they spent in 2010, according to a National Retail Federation survey.
“The overwhelming majority of Americans plan to spend the day handing out candy, so it would make sense that, ‘I’m going to be home, I’m going to hand out candy, so therefore just let me dress my pet up,’,” said Kristen Regine, retail trends expert at Johnson & Wales University.
