A sow at a South Africa animal sanctuary has developed a love for colour and painting.
Pigcasso was rescued from an abattoir as a piglet and taken to theĀ sanctuary in Franschhoek, Western Cape region, in 2016, where her new owners discovered her passion for paintbrushes.
Joanne Lefson, who runs Farm Sanctuary SA, said: “We gave her some soccer balls, rugby balls and, of course, there were paintbrushes lying around because the barn was newly built. She ate or destroyed everything except the paintbrushes.”
Soon the pig was using her snout to dip the brushes into pots of paint and make her mark on a canvas propped up in her sty, reported Reuters.
Some of Pigcasso’s paintings have sold for almost $4,000 (Ā£3,020) with the proceeds going to animal welfare. She has even had one of her artworks turned into a watch face for Swiss watchmaker Swatch, which recently announced a partnership with the pig.
