MPs will debate two petitions relating to pet theft on Monday (October 19).
The debate will be led by Petitions Committee member Tom Hunt MP, and a Minister from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) will respond on behalf of the Government.
This debate has been scheduled in response to two petitions, which between them have received over 261,000 signatures in total. They are:
> Pet Theft Reform, calling for an amendment to welfare law to make pet theft a specific offence
> Make pet theft a specific offence with custodial sentences
The debate will last for 90 minutes, and will take place in Westminster Hall – the House of Commons’ second chamber.
