The impact of new packaging regulations, which will see suppliers responsible for the costs of dealing with packaging waste instead of local councils, will be discussed in a webinar next week from the Pet Industry Federation (PIF).
Taking place on Wednesday May 10 at 1pm, the webinar will include a presentation from government department DEFRA and the opportunity for attendees to put their questions to DEFRA officials on compliance with the new rules.
The Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging (EPR) will make firms responsible for the costs of dealing with packaging waste, moving costs away councils and council taxpayers. Producers will be required to pay for the collection and disposal costs of household packaging they supply when it becomes waste.
Producers with a turnover of greater than £2 million and who handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging each year must also report this information to the Environment Agency twice a year.
The PIF webinar will cover the basics on the packaging reforms, key dates for EPR responsibilities, obligations, thresholds and implications.
The webinar is free to attend and is open to both PIF members and non-members, but attendees must pre-register through the joining link to the webinar here: https://petfederation.co.uk/events/
