Kennelpak is marking Pet Dental Health Month this February with a package of advice for dog owners and a marketing push on the Whimzees brand.
The Whimzees by Wellness range of dental chews includes four different shapes – Toothbrush, Hedgehog, Alligator and Stix. Free samples and free POS material is available for retailers, as well as digital content for websites and social media. For more information, email [email protected] .
Whimzees by Wellness Puppy Chews are also available for puppies aged over three months. According to the company, waiting until a puppy is six months old before brushing their teeth is the equivalent of waiting until a child is almost eight years old. Further information for owners as part of the campaign includes help in spotting the signs of dental disease and advice about creating the right routine.
Five signs of dental disease in dogs to watch for
Knowing what to look out for will help you to advise your customers about dental health care in dogs:
- Bad doggy breath isn’t normal or unavoidable! It’s a sign of dental disease.
- Red gums: Two thirds of a dog’s tooth are under the gum line which means dental disease can live where you can’t see it.
- Discoloured yellow or brown teeth: without cleaning, plaque build-up start in as little as 24 hours.
- Excessive drool or signs of discomfort.
- Difficulty chewing or starting to drop some of their food around their bowl.
