Fresh pet food company Boost Pet is making headway in the grocery sector with the brand set to be stocked in more than 200 stores by the end of the year.
The freshly prepared food, which is sold frozen for pet owners to defrost at home, has secured listings with Sainsburys, Tesco, and Marks & Spencer, with Waitrose and Co-Op also working with the company to develop the concept in the retail sector. The brand, which is manufactured in-house in West London, has been available online since May 2023 for one-time purchases and via a subscription model.
Co-founders Liam Wylie and Patrick Nestel, who come from pet and retail management backgrounds, met in Australia where Wylie worked for The Real Pet Food Co, which was at the time the world’s largest fresh pet food manufacturer.
The range includes beef and chicken meatballs meals and treats; beef, pork, fish and chicken dog meals with superfoods, turkey and chicken meals for working dogs; beef, salmon and chicken cat meals and mint ice cream for dogs. Unit prices range from £2.30-£4 in retail.
Nestel said: “Customers want to know what they are eating and that their food is not ultra processed, this applies to their pet’s food too.
“This realisation from pet owners has led to a rapid growth in the fresh pet food sector. Fresh pet food is minimally processed, made from real ingredients, and typically free from preservatives to ensure higher nutritional value, taste, and quality for our pets. As there are no preservatives, it is delivered in a frozen or refrigerated format to preserve its shelf life.”
