More than 50 sausage dogs from around the country flocked to Persie Distillery, in Perthshire, to celebrate the launch of Dachshund Gin Liqueur.
The family-run stables-turned-distillery in Glenshee has teamed up with dog rescue charity PADS to raise funds for unwanted pets by creating a family of ‘dog gins’ – with different styles of gin reflecting different breeds.
For example, Dachshund is a liqueur made using pressed limes with fruit left over from the distillery’s award-winning Zesty Citrus Gin. Like the breed, Dachshund Gin Liqueur is ‘the perfect balance of sweet and sharp: bursting with zest, it has a long body and is best served short’!
Simon Fairclough, distiller and managing director, explained: “Now gin lovers can help to raise funds for animal welfare the next time they have a hair of the dog. With five regular distillery dogs, it’s a perfect fit for us to team up with a small charity that makes a big difference to dogs’ lives. PADS’ sterling work in finding secure and loving homes for abandoned dogs is life-changing – for both the dogs and owners – and we are proud to be a partner.”
Dachshund Gin Liqueur follows the launch of Labrador Gin and Spaniel Gin last year. Both have been carefully created to reflect the breed: Labrador is ‘traditional, soft in the mouth, mellow and warming’, while Spaniel Gin is ‘lively on the palate – spicy and spirited yet very gentle… with great warmth and intensity and a silky soft coating’.
For each bottle sold, Persie Distillery donates £1 to PADS, in addition to an annual lump sum, all of which will go towards providing care and shelter for abandoned dogs.
