The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has received a New Year boost through a new partnership with pet food brand Buddy Bites.
Buddy Bits will give 1kg of its premium kibble to the rescue centre for every 2kg of food ordered in the UK. Buddy Bites is also offering a food bag to each dog who is adopted through the Home, and any unused bags of food will be donated to the 81 food banks across Central and Eastern Scotland that the Home currently supports.
Last year saw record-breaking pressures on the charity, with nearly 400 new admissions between September 2023 and August 2024 and costs reaching £7,000 per day to keep the Home going. Over the same period, the Home distributed 44,960kg of pet food to food banks across Central and East Scotland.
Lindsay Fyffe Jardine, ceo of the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, said: “We are thrilled that Buddy Bites has chosen the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to become their first UK partner. This partnership is of huge importance to us and as well as greatly benefitting the dogs of the Home, our relationship with Buddy Bites will also be of enormous value to the communities we support.
“The pet food bank service which is used as a lifeline by so many will receive an extremely welcome boost in donations so we are so pleased that the partnership will extend beyond the walls of the Home and support dogs across Central and Eastern Scotland.”
Chris Lee, co-founder of Buddy Bites, added: “My co-founder (Ryan) grew up in Edinburgh, so was already aware of the work that the Home do and supporting a shelter close to home was very appealing.
“When we came to visit, we realised that it would be a fantastic fit. The public demand for their services and the eye-watering food bills that go with that, meant that there was an obvious value add for us to offer. By covering all the food needed for dogs at the Home and also providing food to sustain the pet food bank, we can free up much needed funds that can be allocated elsewhere.”
