Dog food brand Harringtons is looking to recruit a social media champion to post about picking up their pet’s poo as part of a campaign to encourage responsible dog ownership.
The #ScoopThePoop campaign will use social media to help communicate the importance of picking up after your pet. Prospective candidates apply by filling in a form letting Harringtons know which park their pet enjoys walks in most, and the successful applicant then needs to highlight #ScoopThePoop on their Instagram, Facebook or TikTok channels twice in 2024. Applications close on February 29, and the winner will receive a year’s supply of Harringtons dog food.
Peter Wright, vet for Harringtons and star of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet, will also feature in the campaign, encouraging owners to check their dog’s excrement for health signs before disposing of it.
He said: “Observant owners will be quick to notice changes in their dog’s stool, be it a change in colour, consistency or noticing foreign bodies within the stool. These may be indicators that all is not right in their dogs.
“The ideal deposit of dog poo is an easy-to-pass, chocolate brown stool. So, if you notice your dog straining, or the consistency being harder or wetter than normal, you may want to consult your veterinarian to find the cause of the issue.”
