Novel pet food firm Omni has secured investment backing following an appearance on BBC TV’s Dragons’ Den.
In the episode screened this week (February 6), dragons Steven Bartlett and Deborah Meaden agreed a £75k investment in the business in exchange for 2.5% of the equity. This has been described as the highest-ever valuation for a pet care firm in the programme’s history.
Omni was launched in 2021 by veterinarian Dr Guy Sandelowsky and co-founder Shiv Sivakumar. Since then, it has sold five million meals in the UK and achieved over 400% sales growth, specialising in vegan recipes across food, treats and supplements.
Sivakumar said: “The key factor in all the products is the use of novel proteins derived from yeasts, algae and pulses, that tend not to trigger allergies and sensitivities but deliver on flavour.
“They are also calorie controlled and more environmentally sustainable. The result? Millions of pets that can live happier, healthier lives whilst we protect the planet we live on.”
