Benyfit Natural has recalled several types of frozen raw dog food products containing beef because the products might be contaminated with salmonella.
Some of the products were sold under the names of Unique Pets, Embark on Raw and Newland Pets. The products have been sold by various independent pet food stores and online.
Benyfit Natural said: “We are recalling batches of raw dog food beef products as a precaution, following the detection of salmonella in another un-released beef product. This was detected as part of our ongoing testing programme.”
The recalled products are: Beef & Tripe, 80-10-10 Beef Meat Feast and Succulent Beef in 500g and 1Kg packs; Unique Raw Chicken, Beef & Ox; Unique Raw Duck, Beef & Ox; Embark on Raw Natural Working Dog Food Beef Complete; Neew Dog Premium Beef; Neew Dog Premium Beef 500g and 1Kg packs.
POINT-OF-SALE
The product recall has been announced on the Food Standards Agency website and is said to be England, Wales and Scotland specific.
Point-of-sale notices are displayed in all retail stores selling these products, explaining to customers why they are being recalled and telling them what to do. Customers who bought the affected products online have been contacted.
The Foods Standards Agency said: “The products listed above might be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause illness in humans and animals.
“The products could therefore carry a potential risk because of the presence of salmonella, either through direct handling of the pet food, or indirectly, for example from pet feeding bowls, utensils or contact with the faeces of animals.”
The specific batch numbers of the recalled products can be found on the Food Standards Agency website www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-prin-31-2020
