South London pet food start-up Scrumbles has become a registered B Corporation.
B Corporations (or B Corps) are a group of companies committed to pursuing purpose as well as profit. Scrumbles has been certified by B Lab as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.
The B Corp certification covers five key areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Applicants have to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices including energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.
More than 2,600 businesses globally are certified as B Corps – Lily’s Kitchen is the only other UK pet company to be a B Corp member.
MOVEMENT
Kate Sandle, of B Lab UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Scrumbles to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Scrumbles are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.
“Welcoming Scrumbles is a particularly exciting moment because we’ve seen that the pet food industry is in particular need of a shake-up. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support Scrumbles in paving the way for a new way of doing things”.
Scrumbles co-founder Aneisha said: “We’re delighted to achieve our B Corp certification and join an incredible community of businesses who are striving to do good. At this early stage in Scrumbles story it not only verifies the hard work and tough decisions we’ve made so far, but reinforces we’re set out on the right path to have a positive impact on the environment and communities we serve.”
