A 19-year-old who set up his business aged 13 with two chickens says he is determined to stock his natural dog food in every major supermarket.
Callum Griffiths, from Ynysybwl, Wales, has already signed up Waitrose and Ocado, according to Wales Online.
Aged just 13, Callum set up Clydach Farm Group with two chickens. After breeding the chickens, he sold the poultry to buy his first incubator.
By 2017, Callum had had more than 1,500 birds and a pet food division, exporting to countries such as France, Romania, and Spain. He also employed a team of 12 people, including members of his family, enabling him to focus on the natural pet food side, which quickly became the biggest seller.
He told Wales Online: “The pet food side is now our business. It accounts for 97% of our revenue, so it’s now our focus. We still export internationally but want to refocus. We see France, Germany and Spain as our key areas, as well as Romania.
“Our customer base has also grown dramatically. We are hoping to offer weekend deliveries and are building a new kitchen in Merthyr Tydfil.
“The kitchen should coincide with a new customer development centre in Treforest where we can do distribution going forward.”
He said he planned to recruit ‘more Welsh talent’ to bring his workforce to 20.
“We also want to focus on production, and sales and marketing.
He added: “We want to sell to every good retailer in the UK. We also want to be the number one natural pet food brand in the UK.”
