Nutritional supplement supplier Verm-X has been officially certified as a B-Corp, the independently-audited standard for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Verm-X was founded in 2002 by managing director Philip Ghazala in response to rising concerns around anthelmintic resistance and the amount of pharmaceuticals being used in daily animal care.
Originally formulated for horses, the Verm-X Original range is now available for 20 different species, either as a liquid, pellets, a powder or as a daily treat for dogs and cats, using natural herbal blends to promote intestinal hygiene and gut vitality. All products are manufactured in the UK and raw ingredients are sourced from environmentally-conscious farmers and growers, the company maintains.
B-Corp certification addresses the entirety of business operation and focuses on key areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process requires applicants to reach a benchmark score while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, staff engagement, diversity and corporate transparency.
More than 950 UK companies and 5,818 businesses globally are certified as B Corps, including Patagonia, The Body Shop and Abel & Cole, plus pet care brands Naturaw, Lily’s Kitchen and Beco.
