A major cat charity has called on the new government to introduce licensing of air guns in England and Wales.
Cats Protection says the lack of legislation means cats are often the victims of shootings, incidents that are significantly fewer in Scotland, where air gun licensing has already been introduced.
Jacqui Cuff, Cats Protection’s head of advocacy and government relations, said: “The scale and severity of the injuries sustained by cats is shocking and shows that these are very dangerous weapons. It’s only right that there should be some form of licensing to ensure air guns can only be owned by responsible individuals for legitimate purposes.”
