A new awards programme to celebrate outstanding achievements within Cumbria’s pet industry and also raise money for a local rescue centre has been set up by a successful doggy day care business.
The inaugural Top Dog Business Awards 2025 will take place at The Halston in Carlisle on Friday May 16, 2025. The event will feature 10 categories, including awards for retailers, groomers, trainers, breeders, dog walkers, vets and dog-friendly venues, and is being backed by headline sponsor Telford’s Van Hub, Carlisle. Proceeds from the event will support Eden Animal Rescue’s New Kennel Fundraiser.
The Top Dog Business Awards is the idea of husband-and-wife team Dave and Vicky McKenna, who run Top Dog Doggy Day Carein Carlisle.
Dave said: “Being finalists in three business awards within 12 months ourselves, we wanted to make this type of thing more accessible and less intimidating for businesses in our area.
“The awards are completely free to enter to ensure all businesses, regardless of size, have the opportunity to participate.”
Vicky added: “Our region is home to some truly inspiring businesses, from solo dog walkers to established veterinary practices. This is a chance to recognise their contributions and share their stories while giving back to the community we all care so deeply about.”
Entry to the awards is free, and businesses can submit their entries online at www.topdogawards.co.uk before February. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
