Birmingham Dogs Home is launching an innovative fundraising campaign featuring a live “Puppy Cam” where viewers can view live images of newborn litters at the rescue centre.
The Little Miracles Appeal is running today (June 4) from 11.30am until 2pm in order to raise funds for a new maternity wing, as the number of abandoned expectant mothers at the charity continues to rise. The home hopes to raise £50,000 with the exercise, enough to create whelping units for pregnant dogs to have their puppies in a protective and calm environment.
The Little Miracles Appeal has been launched in partnership with the home’s Business Patron, manufacturer Miraculous Meals. The livestream cam footage can be viewed via the rescue centre’s Facebook page and website, which will also accept online donations.
Birmingham Dogs Home helps to rescue, reunite, and rehome all the stray and abandoned dogs across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire area. As many as 18 pregnant dogs gave birth under the care of Birmingham Dogs Home in 2023, and three litters have already been born this year.
Amelia Townley, maternity team leader at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “Newborn pups cannot see, hear, or regulate their body temperature. They need to be kept out of the cold and away from the dangers of being squashed or smothered. They are completely reliant on their Mum for all their needs and a place to snuggle for warmth.
“With our live ‘puppy cam’ and Little Miracles Appeal we’re aiming to foster an environment where pups who’ve been let down by the world can instead enter the world in a loving and caring environment.”
