A former chubby cat from Sheffield with a fondness for chocolate chip muffins has been crowned ‘Top Cat’ in a pet slimming competition.
Seven-year-old cat Bournville, weighed in at a whopping 9.55kg (1st 7lb) – 59% over his ideal weight of 6kg (13lb).
After PDSA vets warned that his health was at serious risk from his excess pounds, Bournville’s owner, Carla Wood, cut out his excess food and increased his exercise. He shed 11% of his body weight in just six months, impressing Pet Fit Club judges with his trimmer 8.5kg (1st 5lb) figure.
Carla said: “Pet Fit Club has been the best start to his weight loss journey and we’re going to stick with the diet until he is down to his ideal weight.”
Also rewarded was five-year-old Luigi, a former bulging beagle, who was named Pet Slimmer of the Year after shedding a third of his body weight in just six months.
