A stowaway hen has been rescued and rehomed after travelling from Lincolnshire to Hertfordshire under an egg delivery lorry.
The fowl was discovered by staff at the food delivery company on Borehamwood Industrial Park after its two-hour journey.
RSPCA Inspector Nicole Smith, who went to collect the hen, said: “The journey would have been a feat of ‘hendurance’ for this little explorer but thankfully, the brave bird was completely unscathed.”
Animal rescuer Nicole was able to find the hen a home with Hilary Carlen, who has adopted farm birds from the charity before. The hen is said to be ‘thoroughly enjoying’ her new home with Hilary’s six other chickens.
