The British Hen Welfare Trust has thanked the public after it received nearly £30,000 in donations to buy a new rehoming van.
The charity, which rehomes more than 60,000 hens across the country each year, issued an urgent appeal for £20,000 after its old South West van broke down.
A spokesperson said: “The total raised, a stupendous-tremendous £29,084, surpassed all expectations. Not only have we been able to replace our broken van, we have additional funds to buy some new hen trailers too…
“Thank you once again to all of you who have made this possible – we, and the hens you’ve helped now and in the future, are so grateful.”
