Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and the British Veterinary Association have both given hints and tips for helping pets cope this firework season.
Ali Taylor, head of canine behaviour and training at Battersea, said: “Timing your dog’s walks for when fireworks aren’t being let off, ensuring your curtains are drawn, leaving lights on in the evenings and playing music or TV will all help to buffer the noise and sight of fireworks.”
BVA president Daniella Dos Santos said: “Preparing ahead is key to keeping pets and livestock calm and safe, from discussing noise desensitisation techniques with your vet and preparing a ‘safe place’ for pets, to microchipping and investing in pheromone products.”
A full list of tips is available on both organisations’ websites.
