Tourists were left stunned as millions of red crabs closed roads and covered bridges on their annual migration in Australia.
More than 50 million red crabs have made their yearly migration from the jungle coast of the National Park in Western Australia, to breed on Christmas Island, where around 100,000 crab eggs will be released into the Indian Ocean.
Staff on Christmas Island have been busy constructing specialist crab bridges to protect the crustaceans as they make their way towards the sea. Dr Tanya Detto, an invasive species program coordinator on the Island, told Daily Mail Australia that there hadn’t been as many migrating crabs since 2005.
