A pet shop has closed its doors for the final time with online shopping and a decline in high street retailing being blamed for the store’s demise.
The Spalding branch of Stamford Animal and Pet Supplies traded for the final time on Saturday, May 15, with remaining stock being transferred to the company’s Stamford and Oakham shops, which remain open.
“We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers health, wealth and happiness for the future. It has been our pleasure to serve you,” the Spalding shop posted on its Facebook page.
The closure of the shop, which had been trading in the Lincolnshire town for more than 20 years, was announced in March.
“Although we’ve been open during the various lockdowns as an essential retailer, the town of Spalding has suffered badly and we’ve been hit by reduced footfall,” sales assistant Nicky Killon said at the time.
“Everyone is devastated. I love it here – it’s a brilliant job. I will try to keep my sense of humour and look for a new challenge.”
