An exotic pet shop is helping to raise money for a local zoo facing financial problems caused by the coronavirus lockdown.
Wight Vipers is asking its customers to donate £1 every time they visit the store. For every £1 pledged the Isle of Wight store will give Amazon World Zoo a tub of livefood for its animals.
The pet shop said on its Facebook page: “As many of you know Damien (owner Damien Lenton) worked in zoos for 25-plus years so the current situation regarding the problems many zoos are facing is quite close to his heart.
“As this situation drags on it continues to throw the future of many zoos in doubt.”
Wight Vipers points out that at this time of year Amazon World would normally make most of the money it needs to survive through attracting visitors to the zoo.
“They have probably the largest reptile collection on the island to feed at this time so what we wish to do, with your help, is to provide them with food,” the store added on its Facebook post.
“The more pound coins we get, the bigger the supply of food we can get them to help them in a small way.”
