Pet owners and retailers across England and Scotland are being asked to return an Avondale Pet Foods product that is contaminated.
The raw frozen product, Just Natural Chicken and Tripe, was found to have salmonella in it.
The Food Standards Agency has warned that the foodborne bacteria could affect not only pets being fed the dish but also owners who handle the food, should they not take the proper precautions when handling raw meat.
The product being recalled is Just Natural Chicken & Tripe, produced on December 5 in packs containing 20 x 454g and 8 x 1kg with a ‘best before’ date of December 2019 and batch code 104-6/14105/339CT.
The recall was issued on Friday, December 21. No other Avondale Pet Foods products are known to be affected.
The company released a statement, saying: “We have formally updated the affected stockists and anyone with any unused packs of this product batch number please return them to the place of purchase where possible for a full refund.
“We apologise unreservedly for any undue concern this may have caused.”
The company, based in Strathaven Lanarkshire, has also formally updated affected stockists and anyone with any unused packs of this product.
Pet owners and stockists are being advised to email [email protected] or alternatively call 0796 749 1384.
