The owners of a pet shop that opened just last August have decided to close the bricks-and-mortar store and offer a mobile delivery service instead.
Jack and Carly Atkinson admitted they were disappointed to be closing The Atkinson Pet Store in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, so soon after opening on the high street. But a decline in footfall caused by lockdowns had finally taken its toll.
“This decision wasn’t easy for us but it’s one we had to make,” the couple said on the store’s Facebook page.
“We will, however, be taking the shop fully mobile. We know this isn’t ideal for everyone but we would still like to offer our services to you, our valued customers.
“We will be out posting our new leaflets for our new mobile pet store. Thank you for your continued support through these hard times.”
The business will rebrand as Let’s Play FETCH and the Atkinsons will be delivering food, toys and accessories in their van. They hope to provide the same quality of service while saving money on overheads.
Comments from customers on the Facebook page suggest that the new mobile service will be well supported.
The Atkinson Pet Store is due to close at the end of June with the mobile service being available soon afterwards.
