A Pop-up shop offering pet supplies was set up by a group of schoolgirls as part of a project to improve confidence and wellbeing.
The EmpowHER project, run by the charity Autism and ADHD, held the pop-up shop in Ipswich last month (April), offering donated pet supplies to people in need.
The young women involved decided on the project after watching an ITV documentary about people living on the streets with their pets, and how they would rather die than live without them.
Leah, 13, one of the girls involved, told the East Anglian Daily Times: “I made friends with everyone and I would definitely encourage other people to do it.”
The project was so successful the team went on to bake dog biscuits for a second pop-up.
Kristie Frost, a member of the Autism and ADHD team involved in the project, said the aim was to help the girls form friendships to reduce loneliness and isolation during the covid pandemic, as well as creating their own social action project in the community.
