A campaigner and online retailer has spent today (August 26) in a cage in a London park to raise awareness of dogs in need of rescue and rehoming.
Giuseppe Bloom-Mangione has chosen International Dog Day to spend the day in a cage by the Clapham Common Bandstand.
Bloom-Mangione is the founder of Muthapuppa, a social enterprise on a mission to rescue dogs who are homeless, sick or suffering from abuse across the country. According to the organisation, the UK is currently in the midst of a dog welfare crisis with one in four rescue and rehoming centres having to turn dogs away while many smaller centres have closed permanently.
Muthapuppa has launched an online shop at muthapuppa.com selling healthy and sustainable dog products with 100% of the profits going towards funding new rescue and rehoming centres as well as supporting charities such as All Dogs Matter, Blue Cross, Many Tears and Battersea.
Bloom-Mangione said: “There are thousands of dogs in UK rescue and rehoming centres who are waiting to be adopted or fostered into a loving home right now. “I hope this will help raise awareness and encourage people to adopt or foster a dog from any one of the amazing charities we have here in the UK.
He added: “Muthapuppa is more than just a pet shop. We’re on a mission to rescue dogs, and every time you shop with us, you’ll help rescue them too. Muthapuppa is entirely self-funded and we’re 100% reliant on public support to help us on this mission to make sure every dog in need, is rescued.”
