Award-winning pet retailer Piers Smart is featured in a Financial Times article under the headline ‘My First Million’.
Piers, who recently sold his Cambridgeshire-based Scampers Pet Superstore to Pets Corner, reflected on how the business coped with the covid-19 pandemic.
“In 2020 we had record sales, we won the Best Pet Shop in the UK award from PetQuip and a buyer for the business approached us,” he told the FT.
Piers, who owned Scampers with wife Michelle, admitted they “drank more than a glass of champagne” after reaching their £1m milestone.
In their retirement Mr and Mrs Smart, as they are now known instead of Mr and Mrs ‘Scampers’, are spending more time relaxing after years of hard graft, while Piers hopes to do more fly-fishing.
