In honour of National Pet Month, GoCompare released a new report delving into data on UK cats and dogs.
The comparison site analysed its own data from more than 580,000 pet insurance quotes to discover the nation’s favourite pet names.
Like baby names, pet names change with trends and owners take inspiration from a range of things from hobbies to humor – including famous brands.
Out of all the 585,897 pets quoted through GoCompare, many names took inspiration directly from well-known brands, including Harley, inspired by Harley-Davidson motors, which took top spot with 1,428 pets being named after the company.
Oreo came second with 1,100 pets named after the biscuit – a popular option for black and white pets.
SNACKS
Oreo isn’t the only food-related brand popular with owners though, with popular snacks reflected in pet names across the country.
Cadbury brand’s Fudge (1,039), Rolo (980) and Buttons (612) took the top spots after Oreo (1,100). Cookie (1,338) and Biscuit (794) were also popular non-branded names.
In honour of the pubs opening, GoCompare also looked at the top alcohol-inspired pet names, with Tipsy given to 375 pets in the UK. Branded alcohol also makes the list with features such as Stella (543), Bud (299), Guinness (93), Jager (41) and Hendricks (35).
More traditional names still reign supreme, however, with Bella and Charlie the most popular name for Britain’s pets followed by Luna, Poppy, Milo, Lola, Alfie, Teddy and Buddy.
