Natural dog products wholesaler Miro & Makauri has partnered up with ‘Project Rhino’ to help fund dog food and vet supplies for an anti-poaching K9 unit.
With the company’s continued growth over the past 18 months, owner Scott Heinemann said he also wanted to ensure increased responsibility and sustainability where possible.
He said: “Following our successful ‘plant-based dog treats, UN affiliated tree planting scheme in Uganda and our ongoing single-plastic reduction drive, Miro & Makauri wanted to support a conservation and wildlife charity that used and supported dogs in their work.”
The award winning Project Rhino is an association of leading conservation agencies, state and anti-poaching specialists working together to conserve South Africa’s wildlife.
Project Rhino was launched on World Rhino Day, 22 September 2011 with the common aim of fighting wildlife crime and Together with South Africa’s Kruger National Park are collectively responsible for the protection of the world’s largest rhino populations well as the most genetically diverse population of white rhino’s.
A K9 unit was then established by Project Rhino in 2017. Co-ordinator Chris Galliers explained: “Dogs have proved to be an essential tool to fight wildlife crime by tracking down poachers, detecting wildlife products and recovering illegal weapons and ammunition.”
